Week 5 Recap

3:16 Mafia's Keshia Richardson baffled Witness and Orange Crush hitters all day
The first game of the day was the "Battle for the Basement" as the hard-luck Orange Crush faced off against the hot-and-cold Roosters.
The Crush jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings and never looked back in their 12-4 victory. The top of the Crush order was led by Lee Portokalis and Pa Nelson setting the table and Erik Summers cleaning them up. All three went 3-for-3. The Roosters' Rob McMahon matched them going 3-for-3, but the rest of the team was out of cluck.
[Editor's note: both teams sit at 2-5 after their clash.]
Next up was 3:16 Mafia seeking revenge against Cross The Bases. [Ed: Cross The Bases won the first meeting 14-4.]
The Mafia were short-handed and minus all their dames. The Bases jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead after the first inning, but pitcher Andy Tisler largely silenced their bats afterwards as the Mobsters cruised to a 12-6 victory and every member of the team got a "hit" (which is actually just a hit).
The 10am game featured the top two teams in the standings with Witness taking on the Killer Beehs.
“I'm a little overrated."”
- Witness' Rob Tong on his team's three-game winning streak without him
[Ed: Witness, again without the services of manager Rob Tong and several other Witnesses, didn't miss a beat, cruising to a 14-5 victory
over the Beehs. Assistant
manager Robert Martinez led
the team and the charge,
although he admits to not hitting with the same authority as in past years.
[The Killer Beehs fell to 4-3 while Witness took over first place with their 4-1 record.]
Witness finished off the day by beating Cross The Bases, by a score of 10-4.
[Ed: Teen Witness' Alyssa Martinez made her old man proud with a one-throw double play in helping keep the Bases off the, uh, bases. Anthony Halpin contributed with a strong offensive output.]
"I'm a little overrated," Tong said of his team winning three in a row without him.
[Cross The Bases could have tied Witness for first place, but instead fell to a tie for second place with the Killer Beehs with their 4-3 record. Witness remained in first place at 5-1.]
