Offensive 'Draught'
Week 3 Recap

Hits were harder to come by in Week 3
After the offensive fireworks of Week 2 and a league investigation into allegations of widespread PED use, Week 3 produced a rather tepid offensive morning.
There were fewer total hits in the four games of Week 3 than there were in the three games of Week 2. Perhaps everyone was saving the fireworks for the 4th of July?
The morning started off with undefeated Transformers against the winless Killer Beehs, who may be downgraded to Somewhat Menacing Beehs.
The Killer Beehs were hoping to play the role of Avengers following their early-season defeat at the hands of this sentient softball machine. The result was more Green Lantern, however, as the Transformers jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead after one inning and 10-0 after 3 innings, the Beehs were only able to sting the Transformers for one run in the 4th and the game ended in a 10-1 romp.
Every Transformer was able to get on base at least once, helping lead the team to a 3-0 record.
Beehs manager Brian Beeh has combed his lineup for a little more bite, but so far it hasn't resulted in much more than a wing and a prayer. The Killer Beehs dropped to 0-3.
Transformers manager Rob Tong continued the league-wide abuse of puns, noting that a Killer win "just wasn't meant to Beeh" this week.
In Game 2, the Beehs looked to prove Tong wrong not long after his team's swansong. In a clash widely hailed as the meeting between a moveable object and the producers of an irresistably sweet (and non-perishable) substance, the Killer Beehs and Cannon took the field.
To put it another way, in a game featuring two teams looking for their first win of the season, you would think
somebody would get a win.
It was an epic back-and-forth struggle and the game entered the last inning tied at 11 with unlimited runs available to each team.
Neither team could muster any runs in that last frame, and the Beehs celebrated thinking they had won the game. Alas, the Beehs had been mistaken and the game was actually tied.
Obviously, this stung.
In the end, the tie left both teams still searching for their first win of the season.
However, both teams will have a chance at redemption this coming week as the teams renew the heated rivalry and look to emerge from the league basement.
Game 3 saw probably the most interesting outcome of the day as the 1-2 Believas matched up against league-leading Pass the Plate.
The game started with plenty of offensive fireworks early as the Believas scored four runs in each of their first two innings, and Pass the Plate scored five runs in its first Pass through the lineup.
However, both managers reminded their teams that this was Week 3, not Week 2, and such offensive outbursts were not going to be tolerated.
The game settled into a pitching and defensive duel with Pass the Plate eking out only one more run the rest of the way and Believas held on for an 8-6 victory.
Believas were led offensively by Rob McMahon and David Zuperku, who combined to drive in five of the team's eight runs.
Pass the Plate's normally potent offensive stalled despite 11 different players getting a hit.
The stunning upset lifted the Believas to a 2-2 record while Pass the Plate suffered their first defeat of the season, dropping to 3-1.
In the last game of the day, Pass the Plate found their offensive mojo and passed the plate
an-unlucky-for-Cannon 13 times.
“The Killer Beehs have Bryan Beeh, Katie Beeh and Sammy Beeh.”
- Ethan Tong, son of Transformer Rob Tong, on Sam Baturoni's nickname
Plates' Les Carter, perhaps with his mind on ambulance-chasing in the early game, powered home four RBIs, many of which were Dan Coughlin (who went 4-for-4) and Jeremy Huntington.
Cannon was only able to fire a few feeble shots in the early innings and by the time they scored four runs in their last inning, the battle had been decided.
Cannon's Erik Summers and Juan Cruz continued their season-long barrage against the opposition with three RBIs each.
Cannon dropped to 0-3-1 while Pass the Plate improved to 4-1.
After a three-week break, the action will resume this Saturday at sun-drenched Clarendon Park.
Cannon and the Killer Beehs both get two chances to crack the win column.
The Beehs open the morning looking to get a sweet victory over Pass the Plate.
Cannon and the Killer Beehs try to avenge their, uh, tie in Game 2.
Cannon will try to fire a blast through the Transformers in Game 3.
And the Transformers take on the suddenly dangerous Believas in the morning's finale.
There is a full slate of four games on the schedule, and playoff-positioning should be in full swing!
